Google Chrome extensions are often very easy to remove if you go to the Extensions tab search for your specific extensions and click the trash can icon the extension is gone forever.
But in some cases, the extension is “Installed by Enterprise Policy“, “Managed by your organization” or “Installed by your Administrator” and cannot be removed using the trash can icon.
In that case, we need to manually remove the extensions from Windows or Mac and the Google Chrome web browser.
This is some work but not a very hard task to perform. The extensions “Installed by Enterprise Policy” are most likely caused by adware, which means the extension is ad-supported and installed without the user’s permission.
This instruction works! (Cause we tested it!)

Reset Group Policy’s to Remove the administrator extension permission
- Right-click the Windows Start menu (or Windows key + X)
- Select “Command Prompt (Admin)” or search for “cmd.exe” and right click “Run as Administrator”.
- a command prompt opens up.
- Type the following commands in the command prompt in following order:
- rd /S /Q “%WinDir%System32GroupPolicyUsers”
- Press Enter on your keyboard
- rd /S /Q “%WinDir%System32GroupPolicy”
- Press Enter on your keyboard
- gpupdate /force
- Press Enter on your keyboard
- The “Installed by enterprise policy” policy can be removed from Google Chrome, you should be able to remove the desired Browser Extension from your Browser. Please try to remove the Browser Extension from Google Chrome.
If this didn’t work, please follow the instructions below!
Open the Google Chrome web browser, expand the Chrome menu, click the three vertical dots in the upper right corner.
In the Google Chrome menu, expand More tools and open Extensions.
Click “Developer Mode” in the upper right corner. In the extension, you would like to remove note the ID. Save the ID somewhere in a text editor, we need it later.

Regedit is the Windows Registry Editor. We are going to use the Windows Registry Editor to remove the extension ID from the Google Chrome forced Install extension list. Make sure the task is created with administrative privileges.
In the left menu, expand the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesGoogleChromeExtensionInstallForcelist
Find the ID we copied earlier from the Google Chrome extensions list. Click the corresponding number with a right click and select Remove.
Delete the full key, not the data field the whole key, number 2 in this example.

Close the registry editor and close the Google Chrome web browser. Restart Google Chrome and the extension is gone from the list of installed by enterprise extensions.
Scan your computer with Malwarebytes to make sure all adware is removed your computer.
Remove Managed by your organization in Google Chrome on Mac
- First you need to remove all suspicious applications from your Mac. You can use CleanMyMac to identify and remove suspicious apps on your Mac.
- Click the apple icon in the top left corner.
- Select Preferences from the menu
- Click Profiles
- Delete all Profiles from your Mac “Google chrome profile”, “Adminpref profile”, “Safari Profile”.
- Open Google Chrome
- In the menu (three dots)
- Click Settings
- Scroll down to Reset Settings. Note: when you reset Google Chrome all favorites, saved passwords, etc are lost!!
- Reset Google Chrome
The Managed by your organization or installed by enterprise policy is now removed from Google Chrome on Mac.
